Tyson Feeds the Village
We are thrilled to announce that Tyson Foods has partnered with us to FEED THE VILLAGE through a generous grant. Tyson has committed to fight food insecurity at the Village and provide for 12 months of our expenses to feed the women and children of the Village.
For the 50-55 women and children we house each year, this grant will provide for their 5 weekly community meals and our 24/7 accessible kitchen and pantry. Through our community meals, this grant will yielding about 5,200 individual meals for the residents at our women and children’s shelter.
Food Insecurity for Domestic Violence Victims
This program will benefit women and children who have experienced significant forms of trauma, including domestic violence, other forms of abuse, and homelessness. In 2020, 89% of the women we served had experienced domestic violence, 68% had experienced homelessness, and 58% had experienced sexualabuse. For children last year, 74% had witnessed domestic violence, 62% had experienced homelessness,50% had experienced neglect, and 24% had experienced sexual abuse.
Research has shown a connection between domestic/intimate partner violence and food insecurity (PublicHealth Nutr., 2016 Apr; 19(5): 914–923, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6884316/), as well assignificant links between sexual abuse, homelessness, mental health and hunger for female-led households(American Journal of Public Health. 2004 January; 94(1): 109–115, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1449835/).
Providing food security to the women and children we serve is a critical need for their health and future well-being. Tyson’s support would enable us to ensure that no mother will worry where their next meal will come from and no child will go to bed hungry during their stay at Restoration Village.
Thank you, Tyson, for partnering with us to restore lives!
